Artistic Embossed Book Inspired by Ancient Greek Pottery (2023–2024)

During my Erasmus programme at the Athens School of Fine Arts in Greece (October–December 2023), I encountered Architectures of Healing: Cure through Sleep, Touch, and Travel, a book exploring ancient Greek healing practices and the role of physical experience in rituals of care. This encounter influenced my interest in how art can invite slow, physical engagement and create space for personal reflection.

As an initial experiment, I created an embossed artist’s book inspired by ancient Greek architectural motifs and pottery patterns. The book contains no printed text or colour on its interior pages; instead, each page is composed of hand-embossed forms and textures intended to be discovered through touch. The white paper reduces visual information and encourages the hands to become the primary means of exploring the work.

The red cover creates a visual contrast and invites the viewer to pick up and open the book. Through this simple structure, I explored how an artwork can shift attention from looking toward holding, tracing, and feeling. This project became an important starting point for my subsequent research with blind and visually impaired participants in Athens.
